Tony Stark's return to the big screen in 'Iron Man 3' is now only weeks away, but Marvel chiefs are already planning their future superhero assaults on the cinematic masses.
Robert Downey Jr.'s latest escapades as the suave billionaire playboy/ingenious engineer will launch the second phase of Marvel's cinematic universe, which will be followed by November's 'Thor: The Dark World,' and then Steve Roger's return for 'Captain America: The Winter World,' next spring.
Marvel Studios announced earlier this week that filming has begun on the sequel, which has the filmmaking brothers Anthony and Joe Russo at the helm.
They also decided to release a brief plot synopsis for the movie too, which stated, "'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' will pick-up where Marvel's 'The Avengers' left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, DC."
Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson will be reprising their roles from previous Marvel films as Nick Fury and Romanoff, whilst Robert Redford has also signed up to play a SHIELD official. Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Sebastian Stan and Hayley Atwell will also join them for the follow-up.
Mackie is set to play Roger's partner, Sam Wilson/Falcon, whilst Stan is playing the film's main villain, Bucky Barnes, AKA, the Winter's Solider, who, after being brainwashed turns from Roger's sidekick into an evil assassin.
Whilst, Van Camp will be playing Agent 13, and is expected to be Captain America's love interest in the film, replacing Atwell's Peggy Carter, who had to sit idly by as Rogers slept for nearly 70 years in his Arctic slumber. But don't worry; Van Camp will be playing Peggy's niece, Sharon Carter, so at least Rogers is keeping it in the family.
Meanwhile, MMA fighter Georges St-Pierre, has also confirmed that he has been added as a villain to the sequel, but as he is only going to be on set for a week so it doesn't seem likely that he'll be the main antagonist to 'Captain America' though.
A new image also shows off 'Captain America' and his iconic shield, as he stands in preparation to do battle in some base. It's awesome. You can check it out above.
But does Johansson's addition mean that maybe Rogers and Romanoff might partake in their own fling? Are you excited for 'Captain America 2: Winter Soldier'?
