Captain America: Civil War Is Now The Biggest Movie Of 2016

Good news for Marvel fans – ‘Captain America: Civil War’ is now officially the highest-grossing movie of 2016.

So far the sequel has coined in $981.9 million – that’s £674 million – worldwide.

That means it’s sailed past 'Zootropolis’ and its $971.3 million (£667 million) haul, previously the biggest movie of the year.

But as both movies are produced by Disney, there’s probably no ill will, plus the fact that the Mouse House is also behind another top five highest-grossing movie so far this year, 'The Jungle Book’, which has made a massive $831 million (£570 million) so far.

Sitting in third place, and despite its catastrophic reviews, is 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, with a gross of $870.2 million (£597 million) worldwide.

Meanwhile, 'Deadpool’, which benefitted from a considerably lower budget than both its comic-book rivals ($58 million), sits at number five, having made $763 million (£523 million).

The third movie in the rebooted Captain America series has been called the best so far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It earned largely rave reviews from critics, sitting with a sturdy 90% 'fresh’ rating on reviews aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.
