Carol McGiffin has said she knew her marriage to first husband Chris Evans wouldn't last.

The 60-year-old reflected on her first marriage on Friday's Loose Women as the panellists watched a 17 year old clip from the show of a discussion on divorce.

In the clip, McGiffin said: "If at the time I was getting married I had known that there was no way I could have got divorced and I wasn't allowed to, I would absolutely never have got married, I wouldn't have done it."

She was wed to the DJ for seven years although had separated several years prior to their 1998 divorce.

McGiffin is now married to Mark Cassidy who is 22 years her junior, and she says it's "totally different" this time around.

Speaking on the programme on Friday she shared: "It's totally different this time. I'm only shocked because can't believe I said that out loud back then, but I knew when I married my first husband that it wasn't going to be forever, I knew that.

"I knew it wasn't quite right, so I just went along with it, weirdly, knowing I could get out of it, which is completely wrong.

"And then I did everything to try to keep it together and not have it end, but I couldn't stop it. But luckily it was allowed, but no I would still have married Mark 100%, because you just know."

Evans went on to wed a teenage Billie Piper in 2001 although the pair split in 2005 before getting a divorce two years later.
