It’s official – General Leia is not in ‘Star Wars 9’.

Following the untimely death of Carrie Fisher, fans have been dying to know what will become of General Leia… and now, despite rumours that she would still appear in ‘Star Wars 9’ it looks as though her ‘Star Wars’ story has come to an end.

During an interview with Good Morning America, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy revealed that Carre Fisher won’t be back for ‘Star Wars 9’.

“By the time we were well underway with Episode IX in our thoughts, we had not written the scripts yet, but we’ve regrouped, we started over again in January,” she explained. “So sadly, Carrie will not be in IX. But we’ll see a lot of her in VIII, which is great.”

Rumours of her return began a few days ago, when her brother Todd Fisher revealed that he and Carrie’s daughter Billie Lourd had given Disney and Lucasfilm permission to use some pre-recorded footage to bring her to Episode IX.

“[Billie and I] were like, ‘yes, how do you take her out of it?’ and the answer is you don’t… She’s as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi Wan — when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful.”

But it seems there may have been some crossed wires.

After all, just because the family has given them permission to use footage in ‘Episode IX’ doesn’t mean that Lucasfilm will actually take them up on it.

And it sounds as though they already have a plan.

Still, at least we get to see a lot more of Carrie Fisher’s General Leia in ‘Star Wars 8’… and with the first glimpse of her character revealed at Star Wars Celebration Orlando, we can’t wait to see Leia back on the big screen.

“We finished everything in VIII, and Carrie is absolutely phenomenal in the movie” said Kathleen Kennedy. “We’re so happy that we were able to complete shooting in the summer.”

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ will star Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher.

Rian Johnson both wrote and directed the movie.

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ heads to cinemas on 15 December 2017.
