Casey Affleck has finally addressed the backlash surrounding his success with ‘Manchester By The Sea’, which reached a zenith over the weekend when he was awarded the Best Actor Academy Award for his performance.

For those of you that don’t know, two women that were part of the crew of his 2010 mockumentary ‘I’m Still Here’ sued Affleck for breach of contract, intentional infliction of emotional distress, while one also insisted she had been sexually harassed by him, too. Affleck later settled with the women, but has denied the allegations.

When Affleck was asked by the Boston Globe about those that have been critical of his recognition despite these claims he “sighed heavily,” and then explained that “both sides in the case are prohibited from commenting on the matter, and none of the people who are condemning him online know what happened.”

Affleck then added, “I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else.”

Affleck then “wearily” continued, “There’s really nothing I can do about it. Other than live my life the way I know I live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time.”
