Cast Fills Out For Anne Hathaway Monster Movie, Colossal

While the recent, official confirmation of Warner Bros and Legendary’s plans for ‘Kong Vs Godzilla’ was warmly received by monster movie lovers everywhere, the idea of those two titans doing battle on the big screen isn’t necessarily as a big a surprise as a giant monster doing battle with Anne Hathaway.

However, this is - in some form or another - what we can expect from ‘Colossal,’ the Oscar-winning actress’s latest movie which has just started production in Vancouver.

As filming is underway on the independent film from director Nacho Vigalondo (’Timecrimes’), we also have news of who will co-star with Hathaway - and the main names to date are Tim Blake Nelson, Jason Sudeikis and Austin Stowell.

While first announced earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival, there were doubts that ‘Colossal’ would make it before cameras at all following legal action from Toho Studios, owners of ‘Godzilla.’

This was down to production company Voltage Pictures’ perhaps ill-advised pre-publicity describing the film as a cross between ‘Godzilla’ and ‘Lost in Translation,’ and the obviously ‘Godzilla’-esque plot point of a giant monster attacking Tokyo.

However, the difference is that this monster has a mysterious connection to Hathaway’s troubled New Yorker, who is going through hard times after losing both her job and her boyfriend. Somehow she comes to realise that only she has the power to stop the monster attacks.

Deadline tells us Austin Stowell (above, soon to be seen in ‘Bridge of Spies’) will portray Hathaway’s ex, whilst long-established screen veteran Tim Blake Nelson (below, recently seen - though not by too many people - in ‘Fantastic Four’) will portray a character named Garth, who “has a drug problem that he doesn’t do a particularly good job of hiding.”

Jason Sudeikis (’Horrible Bosses,’ ‘We’re the Millers’) is also reported to be appearing in the film, though no character details appear to have been revealed.

Although it has not held up production, the lawsuit from Toho Studios against Voltage Pictures is ongoing, and reportedly there will be a hearing next month.

No release dates for ‘Colossal’ have been announced yet.
