Casting gear changes for Fast and Furious 7

Deepika Padukone out, Nathalie Emmanuel in?

Barely a day goes by without the already packed cast of 'Fast and Furious 7' adding more stars to the roster. Jason Statham popped up in 'Fast and Furious 6' confirming his position in the sequel. Then martial arts extraordinaire and star of the ludicrously entertaining 'Ong Bak', Tony Jaa was confirmed and then the casting coup of the year was announced with Kurt Russell joining the seventh and eighth films in the series.

Now there has been a slight gear change. After Denzel Washington was approached and declined, it seemed perhaps 'Fast and Furious 7' was slowing down on cast gobbling duties. Then came word the already diverse cast would add Bollywood beauty Deepika Padukone and 'Game of Thrones' star Nathalie Emmanuel.

Deepika Padukone

The Bollywood star has been a massively popular addition to the cast with her fans being very vocal that the actress will shine in her Hollywood debut. After high profile roles in big Bollywood films including action thriller 'Race 2' Padukone had expressed interest in joining the 'Fast and Furious' franchise.

However after the announcement was recently made that she would be a part of the series, The Times of India is now reporting that Padukone may be too busy with other commitments to take part. The tight schedule for 'Fast and Furious 7' was also the reason previous director Justin Lin cited for leaving the franchise with James Wan being sped in to take over. Padukone has 'Happy New Year' and 'Ram Leela' to film before the end of 2013 and another film, particularly of the scale of 'Fast and Furious 7' may just be impossible.

Nathalie Emmanuel

One casting decision that appears set in stone according to Deadline is that 'Game of Thrones' star Emmanuel will be joining the team on 'Fast and Furious 7'. Emmanuel has risen through British TV staples such as 'Hollyoaks' through 'Casualty' and 'Misfits' to the overwhelmingly popular fantasy drama HBO's 'Game of Thrones' in the past five years. It has been suggested she will be playing one of Dom Toretto's team and will not be using her sex appeal to slink into a villainous role but her actual character is being kept under wraps for the time being.

Ronda Rousey rumour

Following the success of Gina Carano's addition to 'Fast and Furious 6', another female fighter is being rumoured to join the cast of 'Fast and Furious 7'. Some reports suggest Dwayne Johnson has confirmed the MMA fighter and UFC champion is in but she is still listed as a rumour on IMDb. She would make a great addition to the already bulging cast as another strong woman to add into the testosterone filled mix would always be welcome with fans.

What do you think? Sad to see Deepike Padukone go? Want Ronda Rousey in? Let us know…

Pete is a cautious fan of the Fast and Furious films; enjoying the fast cars and furious fights but not so keen on the cheesy dialogue. However he's not going to be telling Vin Diesel that last bit any time in a hurry…
