Cats movie trailer: Jordan Peele among those to react as first look is compared to 'demented dream ballet' by horrified viewers
The first trailer for the much-hyped and highly anticipated film adaptation of the musical Cats has sparked reactions of horror and confusion among viewers.
The film boasts an all-star cast including Judi Dench, Jennifer Hudson, Idris Elba, Taylor Swift, James Corden, Rebel Wilson and Sir Ian McKellen, and is helmed by Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper (The King's Speech).
Yet even that doesn't appear to be enough to convince fans that the film is anything other than a "demented dream ballet", as one viewer described it, after seeing the trailer that shows the group of CGI human-cat hybrids.
Us director Jordan Peele didn't seem impressed, but he did approve the use of the soundtrack from his own movie being applied to Cats:

My favorite thing about the #Cats trailer is that it didn’t awaken anything (new) in me, sexually. So. Phew.

Sincere Q: when the “cats” in the Cats trailer are wearing fur coats, like Judi Dench is, do you think those are meant to be their own fur, or are they wearing the fur of some other animal that they, the cats, have skimmed and fashioned into garments?

I don't know why you're all freaking out over miniature yet huge cats with human celebrity faces and sexy breasts performing a demented dream ballet for kids.

The original musical Cats debuted on the West End in 1981. It was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and inspired by TS Eliot’s collection of fantasy poems, Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats.
Cats is scheduled for release on 20 December.
