The nightmare that is Cats continues to haunt us on social media.

Directed by Oscar-winner Tom Hooper and blessed with a solid cast in Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, Idris Elba, James Corden and Jennifer Hudson, the movie was roundly criticised for its dodgy CGI and became one of the biggest cinematic flops in recent years.

But if you thought the whiskered weirdness was over, think again, because now some original concept art has been uploaded online.

Posting on her Twitter page yesterday (March 17), writer Angelina Christina attached the above image along with the caption: "I'm watching the extras for the Cats movie and this concept art is killinggg meeee."

Looking like a cross between a melted witch and a Sphynx cat it's... quite something.

Although the finished movie's feline creations weren't exactly great (to put it mildly), we're definitely relieved Hooper and his crew didn't opt for this design in the end.

Elsewhere, Old Deuteronomy star Dame Judi previously admitted that she's yet to see the movie.

"I didn't read anything about the response to it, nor have I seen it, and I've only seen a picture of myself," she explained.

Based on that picture, she compared her character's appearance to a cat she once owned called Carpet.

"I once had a cat like that called Carpet – I didn't realise I was playing Carpet, I thought I was playing a really clapped out old, mangy old cat who didn't have much fur," she noted.

"I didn't realise I was this wonderful show cat."

Cats is available to pre-order on Blu-ray and DVD now.
