Cats may have been slated across the board, but star Jennifer Hudson reckons the movie will be seen "differently" down the line.
The 2019 big-screen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's feline-centric musical achieved infamy upon release, with derision from critics over its digital fur technology (among other aspects) as well as bombing at the box office.
Hudson, who played Grizabella, was asked about the negative reception in a new interview with Total Film, admitting: "You know what? I think it was a bit overwhelming.
"It's unfortunate that it was misunderstood. I think later down the line, people will see it differently. But it is something I am still very proud of and grateful to have been a part of. Yeah, I got to be Grizabella the Glamour Cat!"
Hudson loved her experience on the film so much that she got two cats of her own, naming them Grizabella and Macavity.
"They are the best thing I've ever had," she revealed. "I love them so much."
Hudson isn't the only star to defend the movie, with Jason Derulo (Rum Tug Tugger) labelling it an "incredible, brave piece of art" back in 2019.
However, last year star Rebel Wilson poked fun at the movie at the BAFTAs, joking that the black part of the dress she was wearing was for "a funeral I just went to for the feature film Cats."
She and fellow star James Corden also sparked a backlash over a joke they made at the 2020 Oscars about the movie's visual effects.
