‘Gambit’ hasn’t lost its lead just yet…

The upcoming ‘Gambit’ X-Men spin-off seemed to have hit a brick wall after director Doug Liman chose to leave the project. And let’s face it – it was never going to be a priority while the ‘Wolverine’ and ‘X-Men’ movies were still going strong.

But it looks as though all is not lost, as Channing Tatum is revealed to still be on board.

At least, according to the film’s producer.

According to Buzzfeed reporter Jarett Wieselman, the film’s producer – Lauren Shuler Donne – just confirmed that Channing Tatum is still signed up for the movie.

And that’s not all – she also revealed that we could end up seeing crossovers between the various ‘X-Men’ characters at 20th Century Fox… and that likely means that Wolverine will meet up with Deadpool once again.

And could even include a Gambit cameo.

“Donner says #XMen movies are all about characters coming together,” he added. “So she’d ‘hypothetically’ love a movie one day w/ #Deadpool & #Wolverine”

With Hugh Jackman’s stint as Wolverine soon coming to an end, many believe that 20th Century Fox are likely working to create a replacement to fill that particular void. And that could mean both Deadpool and Gambit stepping up.

Of course, whether or not Tatum ends up as Gambit remains to be seen.

Despite his initial enthusiasm for the role, we’ve neither seen nor heard anything about the Cajun mutant’s solo film for quite some time. And with Lauren Shuler Donne is the authority on what’s happening with this project, it could still be a case of eager optimism.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Gambit’ will reportedly star Channing Tatum as the titular mutant.

Frank Darabont will direct, based on a script by Chris Claremont, Reid Carolin and J oshua Zetumer.

‘Gambit’ currently has no release date.
