Channing Tatum really wants to play X-Men’s Gambit
Could Channing Tatum star as Gambit?

It seems that every actor under the sun lately wants to play a comic book superhero… and Channing Tatum is no exception as he reveals he'd love to play X-Men's Gambit.

I know what you're thinking - hasn't Marvel's Gambit already appeared in that 'X-Men Origins' movie? That's right, he has. But it looks as though Channing Tatum thinks he can do better as he reveals that he'd love to take the role of the X-Men's professional thief… and explains exactly why he'd be perfect for it.

[No plans for a Loki spin-off movie… yet]

In an interview with Total Film, Channing Tatum revealed that he'd love to star in an X-Men movie… preferably as the Louisiana Lothario..

"I would like to play Gambit," he said. "Gambit's my favourite because I'm from New Orleans and around that area… my dad's from New Orleans and I'd like to do the Cajun accent and like, do it for real."

Obviously not enamoured with Taylor Kitsch's take on the Cajun trickster, Tatum is quick to add that he seems to know the character better… and appreciates the more ambiguous nature of the classic X-Men character.

"No knock on Taylor Kitsch," he added with a sense of restraint. "Because I actually like his Gambit but I have always lived around the Cajun people and I would have liked to have seen a little… you know, Gambit was always like a woman-loving, cigarette-smoking, drinking like… he was the punk-rock of superheroes. He was a thief - he rode the line."

[Does Mark Ruffalo deserve his own Hulk spin-off?]

But while he'd certainly love to see himself in the role of Remy LeBeau, he admits that he hasn't exactly had much experience when it comes to superhero films.

"I haven't really had much superhero movies," he grunted. "There's a lot of them. There's a lot of superheroes out there."

A keen observation there, Mr Tatum… But does his enthusiasm for the role and Cajun accent really make him perfect for the part? I'm not so sure. Still, you have to hand it to him, at least he knows his X-Men.
