George Miller’s movie’s made headlines for all the right reasons since its release in 2015, having scooped half a dozen Oscars and gaining a warm response from fans and critics alike. But it appears there was trouble in paradise - if you can call a gruelling desert shoot paradise - because its two biggest stars allegedly didn’t see eye to eye.

Speaking to WSJ Magazine, Theron, who plays revered character Furiosa, had this to say: “From what I hear, he’s not like that on every movie—I hear he’s had good experiences.”

Interestingly, Theron went on to say: “Maybe the movie is what it is because we struggled so much with each other, and those characters had to struggle so much with each other. If we were chum-chum, maybe the movie would have been 10 times worse.”

Of course, we can merely speculate to the specifics of their fall out, but it’s fair to say not all actors get along when making movies.

Its director, George Miller, also had something to say on the feud: “I’m not saying that they were seething right through, but the trajectory of the characters can’t help but seep into the work.”

“When they first meet each other, they’re trying to kill each other. As the two characters come together out of necessity and rather reluctantly, they have to find a degree of trust. And to some extent that was the trajectory of their relationship as well,” Miller goes on to reveal.

From what we’ve seen in recent press conferences, Hardy always appeared relaxed, as well as very frank about the experience and the questions posed to him about the film. He gained attention with his honest and reasoned responses to questions about ‘Mad Max’ being a ‘man’s film’ as well as questions on his sexuality, so it’s a bit of a surprise the pair didn’t get along on set.

That said, anyone who’ seen ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ will be fully aware of the scale and the blood, sweat, and tears that were likely shed whilst making it. Either way, and as Miller says, their fractured relationship comes across on screen to brilliantly work for their characters’ chemistry.
