Charlize Theron Revs Tom Hardy's Engine in Official ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Trailer (Video)

Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy are in for a bumpy ride in the official trailer for “Mad Max: Fury Road,” released by Warner Bros. on Wednesday.

Director George Miller revisits a dystopian future he first imagined in 1979's “Mad Max” — water and oil are in short supply, civilization has collapsed, and mankind is on the brink of insanity. And there's a lot of desert sun.

“Everybody's gone out of their mind,” says one faceless character before the trailer gives way to non-stop action.

Hardy plays Mad Max this time, taking over for Mel Gibson. The “Dark Knight Rises” villain doesn't say much here, but has no problem making the character his own.

Theron joins him in his quest for survival: “Out here everything hurts. You want to get through this? Do as I say.”

The trailer for the highly anticipated re-boot is filled with explosions, madness, violence and more car crashes than you can count on two hands. Nicholas Hoult (“X: Men Apocalyspe”) is especially terrifying as one of Hardy and Theron's crazed antagonists.

“Mad Max: Fury Road” races into theaters May 15, 2015.
