The Chase star Shaun Wallace – aka The Dark Destroyer – has opened up about his relationship with fellow Chaser Anne Hegerty, admitting that while they are friends, they actually "don't socialise" outside of the ITV show.

The Governess won the nation's hearts when she appeared on the most recent series of I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, especially her candid openness about her autism.

And despite them not spending much time together away from the cameras, Shaun has now praised his Chase colleague, revealing that like everyone else, he saw a different side to her in the jungle.

"I didn’t really know until a week or so before and I wished her the best luck and I was very, very proud of her," the star told Metro of finding out when she was going on the series. "Especially because she took herself out of her comfort zone."

Speaking of their own relationship, he added: "Me and Anne are friends but we don’t socialise out of the show.

"I knew about her condition as far as Asperger’s was concerned but like everybody else I saw a different side to her which made me warm even more to her."

Anne returned to the UK this week following her stint on I'm a Celebrity, and has admitted that she was allowed special access to her pantomime script while in the jungle ahead of a role in Dick Whittington as Queen Rat.

"I’ve seen the script, I was allowed half an hour with it a day in the jungle," she said on This Morning. "I’ve got my lines down, apart from they’ve now rewritten most of them so I need to learn them."

She added of her whirlwind year: "I left home in October and I won’t be back until January. We were doing The Chase up until the day before I flew out to Australia and it’s intense at the moment.

"Since Bradley [Walsh] spent most of the year on Doctor Who, we had to do The Chase when it was possible. That was mainly the back end of the year."

The Chase airs on ITV.
