Chevy Chase Goes Into Rehab For Alcohol Problem

Chevy Chase is headed to rehab to get help with his alcohol problem, his publicist has confirmed.

The star of ‘Saturday Night Live’ and ‘Fletch’, who’s 72, has checked into the Hazelden Addiction Treatment Center in Minnesota.

It is the same rehab centre that the late Robin Williams was treated at after his relapse into alcohol use in 2014.

His publicist Heidi Schaeffer said that his recovery needed a ‘tune up’, and that actor wanted to be ‘the best that he can be’.

It’s not the first time that Chase has struggled with substance abuse.

During his time on ‘Saturday Night Live’ in the 1980s, he checked into the Betty Ford Clinic for an addiction to painkillers.

He said that he began using them to treat back pain, following injuries he sustained doing pratfalls for the show.

Chase also admitted using cocaine during that period too.

Speaking about his drug use in an interview with Esquire in 2010, he said: “I never shot things up or freebased.

“I was pretty low-level when it came to drug abuse. I checked myself into the Betty Ford Clinic after my nose started to hurt.”

Chase made a comedy comeback in the series ‘Community’, playing irascible racist Pierce Hawthorn, but last year saw his pilot for a sitcom with his National Lampoon co-star Beverly D’Angelo, called ‘Chev & Bev’ rejected by ABC.
