Chloe Moretz’s Ariel Won’t Have Red Hair In Little Mermaid

In news that’s already irked Disney die-hards, Chloe Moretz has confirmed that she won’t have red hair in the live-action version of ‘The Little Mermaid’.

The 18-year-old actress made this admission during her chat with Entertainment Tonight. After being quizzed whether she’d have to dye her hair red for the role she despondently responded, “No – I want red hair.”

But those of who are ready to boycott the re-telling already because of this news should know that the reason for this change in hair colour is because the film is trying to be more faithful to the original novel by Hans Christian Andersen.

“We’re going over the Hans Christian Andersen novel,” she added. “So I’ll actually have blonde hair.”

Moretz continued by explaining that the adaptation will be a “modern, revisionist tale” while it will also be “progressive for young women in this day and age.”

Unfortunately, despite Moretz’s positive and captivating description for ‘The Little Mermaid’, fans were already outraged by the decision for Ariel to go blonde, and the internet reacted in uproarious fashion.

In fact, people were so upset that Twitter soon lit up with users who had already decided that they wouldn’t be watching the new ‘Little Mermaid’ because of this oversight.

@msnicolecino wrote, “Ariel isn’t having red hair in the Little Mermaid movie, and I feel personally victimised,” while her comments were soon echoed by @steph_bayless who added, “I will not be watching the new little mermaid movie … Ariel is a redhead not a blonde.”

Word to the wise, those who are perturbed by this news should probably have a quick read through Andersen’s book. Because if you’re protective over the colour of her hair then the ending will probably put you off eating fish for life.

We’re still waiting for a confirmed release date for ‘The Little Mermaid’, which has been written by Richard Curtis and previously had Sofia Coppola attached to direct.
