WATCH: 'Lightyear' teaser trailer

Pixar has released the first trailer for Lightyear with Captain America star Chris Evans going to infinity and beyond.

The tale, a spin-off of the Toy Story franchise, sees Evans as the ‘original’ Buzz Lightyear, the astronaut that inspires Andy’s beloved toy.

Speaking about the release, Avengers star Evans said: “The phrase ‘a dream come true’ gets thrown around a lot, but I’ve never meant it more in my life.

“Anyone who knows me knows that my love for animated films runs deep. I can’t believe that I get to be a part of the Pixar family and work with these truly brilliant artists who tell stories unlike anyone else.

“Watching them work is nothing short of magic. I pinch myself every day.”

Lightyear will track Buzz’s adventures into space, and what comes his way to make him the hero on Earth he becomes.

The trailer gives little away about what we can expect from the movie, teasing only that he heads into space with only a cat for company.

The young astronaut is a promising test pilot, and in his preparation to head in to space, is seen in the iconic spacesuit alongside a woman.

In a sweet moment just before the trailer cuts off, we see the pair of them bump fists as they declare: “To Infinity…” cutting off the “And Beyond” catchphrase so connected to the character.

The cast and crew are keeping the film tightly under wraps, though when discussing the project, director Angus MacLane teased the possibility of Emperor Zurg making some form of appearance.

"If the core elements of what Buzz is were to be paid off correctly, you would want to make sure that he had a laser, you'd probably want to make sure that he had rocket legs, and you'd probably want to make sure that at some point he had a recognisable antagonist," he told Entertainment Weekly.

"But of course, I'm not at liberty to say anything about anything at this time."
