Chris Hemsworth has revealed the Avengers cast were quick to tease Chris Evans about his People's Sexiest Man Alive cover photo.

The Captain America star was voted People's Sexiest Man Alive 2022 and appears on the magazine cover standing with his hands behind his back.

Hemsworth told Jimmy Kimmel Live: "We have an Avengers text chain, and it very quickly was like, 'What are you doing with your hands back there?'

"It was like, [Robert] Downey [Jr.] said he was being arrested, I said it was a beautiful mugshot, and Jeremy Renner said a series of things which we won't repeat. ... Filthy."

The 39-year-old Thor star, who won the title himself back in 2014, said he was "proud" to be "passing on the torch" to his co-star, adding: "He is indeed a sexy man."

Evans, 41, told the magazine he expected his friends to tease him over the title.

He said: "Really this will just be a point of bullying. It's ripe for harassment."

But he added: "My mom will be so happy. She's proud of everything I do but this is something she can really brag about."

When Hemsworth won the crown in 2014 he told the magazine he thought it was as “pretty funny”.

He joked he would use it as an excuse to his wife, Spanish model and actress Elsa Pataky, to get out of household chores.

He said: “I think you’ve bought me a couple of weeks of bragging rights around the house. I can just say to her, ‘Now remember, this is what the people think, so I don’t need to do the dishes anymore, I don’t need to change nappies. I’m above that. I’ve made it now.’ ”

Evans followed in the footsteps of People's 2021 Sexiest Man Alive Paul Rudd.

Evans said: "Thanks @people!! I think we can all agree that it’s damn near impossible to follow in Paul Rudd’s footsteps in any capacity, but I’ll do my best."

Robert Downey Jr and Jeremy Renner have never held the title.
