It looks as though Chris Evans’ time as Captain America will be coming to an end after the next two ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ films.

During a recent wide-ranging cover story for Esquire, it was revealed that Evans’ contractual obligations with Marvel Studios will come to an end after the above pair of films, while it was also suggested that the actor has no intention of signing on for any more:

“Settling in on the couch, he groans. Evans explains that he’s hurting all over because he just started his workout routine the day before to get in shape for the next two Captain America films. The movies will be shot back to back beginning in April. After that, no more red- white-and-blue costume for the thirty-five-year-old. He will have fulfilled his contract.”

Chris Evans only signed a six film contract with Marvel when he first agreed to star in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’, negotiating it down from the original offer of nine. After these two ‘Avengers’ films Evans will have actually starred in seven Marvel films as Captain America, but since they’re filming back-to-back they’re probably being regarded as one.

During the same above interview Chris Evans points out that working on a Marvel film is so time consuming that it leaves him with very little room to explore other creative outlets. That’s because he has to spend five months on its production, as well as several months beforehand getting in shape, then a couple more months promoting the film, while there’s also reshoots and whatnot to contend with, too.

Considering he’s been in the role since 2011, and made his directorial debut with ‘Before We Go’ in 2014, there are clearly other parts and films that Chris Evans would like to grapple with. And with either Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) or Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) waiting in the wings to take over as Captain America, as per comics, this is far from the end for the beloved character, just a new beginning.
