Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr prepping to leave Marvel?

Chris Evans has hinted that he’ll be walking away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the fourth ‘Avengers’ movie in 2019.

Not only that, but he’s said that Robert Downey Jr is ‘closer to leaving’ than he is.

Say it ain’t so, Cap…

While promoting his new movie ‘Gifted’, he told USA Today, he said: “I’ve had a great run. Superheroes are re-inventable entities, like Batman or even James Bond. These movies find new incarnations and new ways to tell the story.

“I am all for it. However they want to proceed after Avengers 4, it’s really up to them. I walk away with no regrets and endlessly thankful.

“I’d be lying if I said it wouldn’t be hard for me. But the passing of time and the passing of torches is part of the experience. Nothing lasts forever. There’s a beauty in that departure, even if it can be sad at times. It’s also joyful.

“Downey is far closer to reaching that point where he may walk away. And I don’t know how you replace Downey as Tony Stark. I don’t know who else can touch that.”

He reiterated his position in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres too, saying: “My contact is up. I have Avengers three and four. We do Avengers three now and four is the latter part of the year and after that, that is the end of my contract.”

And with that bombshell, the MCU has shifted somewhat. Will his contract be renewed? Or will – as Marvel boss Kevin Feige has previously intimated – his part go the James Bond route and be filled by another actor?

Either way, there’s still some quality Steve Rogers and Tony Stark time to be had yet.

‘Avengers: Infinity War’ is filming now in Edinburgh, and is due out in May, 2018, and its follow-up set for May, 2019.
