Luckily for Mr Hemsworth, it was his wife.

Portman has revealed that actress and model Elsa Pataky stepped in and donned a dark wig for Thor's smooch with Jane Foster, which happens after the end credits.

“It was for reshoots and he was working in Hong Kong and I couldn't get there because I was working on my own film,” she told the New York Daily News.

“And so they put his wife in my wig and costume, that's why it was so passionate."

It was thanks to some cunning camera angles that the switch appeared to be seamless.

“It was such a perfect solution, wasn’t it?” added Portman.

Check out our rather blurry screengrabs of the kiss below. As you can see, it was shot with Jane Foster's back to the camera and never shows her face as far as we can tell.

Pataky and Hemsworth recently announced that they are expecting their second child, to join one-year-old daughter India Rose.

The pair married in 2010.
