Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson's new Transformers film has been delayed by studio Paramount.

Transformers One was set to release in cinemas on July 19, 2024, but will now come out a little bit later, on September 13 (via Deadline). It's less than two months, but it does mean that the film will miss the summer holidays and will now come out when kids are back in school.

It's an interesting move, as unlike the other Transformers movie, this one is a fully animated one. It's also a prequel story, telling the tale of how Optimus Prime and Megatron went from being comrades in arms to the fiercest of enemies.

Hemsworth and Johansson will voice Optimus and Elita, respectively, while Brian Tyree Henry will voice the Decepticon leader. The cast also includes Jon Hamm (Sentinel Prime), Keegan-Michael Key (Bumblebee), and Laurence Fishburne (Alpha Trion). Toy Story 4's Josh Cooley directs, while Steven Spielberg serves as producer.

When the film was announced, Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation president Ramsey Naito said: "I’m so excited and proud to be working with Hasbro and eOne to bring the first animated Transformers movie to theatres for a never-before-told story.

"I’m honoured to have such incredible talents come together to portray these well-known and much-loved characters in an origin story at the heart of the franchise."

Before that, we've got the continuation of the live-action franchise in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, out in just a few weeks. Longtime Optimus voice actor Peter Cullen will be joined by Michelle Yeoh, Ron Perlman and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, who are all voicing various robots in disguise.
