Chris Rock's Saw reboot has released a new trailer featuring Samuel L Jackson.

Spiral: From the Book of Saw, the ninth instalation of the series, is described by Lionsgate as “the terrifying new chapter of the book of Saw” where “a sadistic mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice.”

The film stars Rock, Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols, and Zoie Palmer. Franchise veteran Darren Lynn Bousman, who also wrote and directed Saw II, Saw III, and Saw IV, directs.

The trailer starts with a mysterious package being delivered to Rock's character, Detective Ezekiel Banks, at his precinct. Asking everyone to leave him with the package, Banks opens it to find a USB drive that says “Play me”, with Saw villain Jigsaw’s mark.

“Hello Detective Banks,” says a voice. “Do you know where your officers are?”

Banks then seeks out his estranged detective father, played by Jackson.

“Jigsaw copycat, this is gonna go sideways fast,” says Jackson.

The official synopsis reads: “Working in the shadow of an esteemed police veteran (Jackson), brash detective Ezekiel ‘Zeke’ Banks (Rock) and his rookie partner (Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.”

Spiral was initially supposed to release on 23 October 2020 but was pushed up to 15 May 2020. Due to the pandemic, however, the film will now arrive on 14 May 2021.
