Many of New England’s other sports stars have joined in by sending along get-well wishes. That includes several members of the Red Sox. Over the past few days players such as Hanley Ramirez, Mookie Betts and Chris Sale have been posting photos and videos to show their support. The best of which clearly belonged to Sale.
In his video, Sale is seen sporting Hayward’s No. 20 Celtics jersey. After delivering a quick message, Sale, with basketball in hand, then turns to his driveway hoop, which was lowered to around six feet, and uncorks…. well, just watch.
No one here is looking to make light of Hayward’s injury. Not Sale. Not us. Not anyone. Everyone is rooting for his full recovery so he can get back to being one of the most-rounded players in the NBA.
But we also can’t ignore this brick heard around Boston. That was not a pretty shot from the former Florida Gulf Coast University standout. That was on the baseball team, of course.
We’re guessing that wasn’t exactly how Sale envisioned the message ending. But hey, sometimes a little humor, whether it was intended or not, goes a long way. It certainly made for a unique video, and also a reminder why Sale is paid to record strikeouts, not sink free throws.
