Chris Tarrant is still haunted by his famous catchphrases from 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?'

The 75-year-old star hosted the ITV quiz show from 1998 to 2014 but admitted that he is unable to walk down "any street" in the country without hearing one of the phrases from the game shouted at him.

He said: "It's just over 20 years since I could walk down any street in Britain without somebody shouting: 'Hello CT! Do you want to phone a friend?' Bearing in mind I haven't even done the show for years, it still happens every single day!"

However, the former 'Tiswas' host went on to explain that despite hearing the same joke for over two decades, it has "never been a problem" and he takes it as a compliment.

Writing in his new autobiography, 'It's Not a Proper Job', he added: "It's never been a problem. People are just saying they like the show. Phrases like: "Do you want to phone a friend?', 'We don't want to give you that', 'Ask the audience' and 'Go 50-50' have become a part of world parlance."

Chris was the face of the hit game show when it and is thought to have handed out more than £60 million in ITV prize money during his time on the show and guided five contestants to winning the top prize of £1million, including Judith Keppel and Pat Gibson, who both went on to become regulars on BBC Two show 'Eggheads.'

He continued hosting until he stepped down in 2014 with ITV taking the show off the air until 20th anniversary celebrations and former 'Top Gear' host Jeremy Clarkson was brought in to present a revival series.
