Christopher Abbott felt 'trapped' under Wolf Man prosthetics
Christopher Abbott has admitted the prosthetics process for his new horror Wolf Man was "tedious and arduous".
In the reboot of The Wolf Man, the Girls actor plays a man who is attacked by a werewolf at a remote cabin in the woods and slowly starts to transform into one himself.
The physical transformation was broken up into stages, with the last requiring Abbott to sit in a make-up chair for up to seven hours while he was covered in prosthetics.
While he is impressed with his horrifying look on screen, the Poor Things star admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that the filming process was not a pleasant experience.
"It looks beautiful, and I'm grateful that we did real prosthetics. The film is all the better for it," he began. "But yeah, man, it's tedious and arduous. It takes hours, and then you have to go shoot. Just wearing the prosthetics for hours is more tiring than you think. Parts of the prosthetics are heavy, and they weigh you down. Physically, you feel like you're trapped a little bit, so it's a mental marathon as well."
However, Abbott noted that he was able to keep track of his performance based on the amount of prosthetics he was wearing, as the film was shot out of sequence.
"I was like, 'Oh, right. When I look this way, I'm at this level.' So it was a team effort in terms of tracking that stuff," he shared. "The progression is very gradual in this movie, so being able to play with how much he progresses was really interesting. It starts with just the fingers, and then it eventually just works its way up through the arms and the rest of the body. So there was a lot to keep track of, but it's fun to play with physicality like that."
Wolf Man, also starring Julia Garner, will be released in cinemas on Friday.
