Cillian Murphy says Oppenheimer sex scenes were "vital"
Oppenheimer's sex scenes between Jean Tatlock (Florence Pugh) and the eponymous father of the atomic bomb are "vital", so says Cillian Murphy.
Talking to GQ in promotion of Christopher Nolan's latest movie, which is one half of the 'Barbenheimer' phenomenon, the star was asked about the various moments of intimacy shown on screen.
"I think [the sequences] were vital in this movie. I think the relationship that he has with Jean Tatlock is one of the most crucial [and] emotional parts of the film," he said.

"I think if they're key to the story then they're worthwhile," he also noted, before suggesting nobody "likes doing them".
"They're the most awkward possible part of our job, but sometimes you have to get on with it."
This comes after the Peaky Blinders favourite told The Sydney Morning Herald that these scenes opposite Florence Pugh's character were "not gratuitous".
"[Nolan] knew that those scenes would get the movie the rating that it got. And I think when you see it, it's so f**king powerful. They're perfect. And Florence is just amazing.

"I have loved Florence's work since Lady Macbeth and I think she's f**king phenomenal. She has this presence as a person and on screen that is staggering. The impact she has [in Oppenheimer] for the size of the role, it's quite devastating," Murphy added.
Talking to Digital Spy earlier this month, the actor admitted that he didn't hesitate in accepting the lead role.
"I've said yes to him from the beginning and will continue to say yes. Any actor would want to work with Chris, no matter what the part," he shared.
"But I didn't know it was going to be this huge, ginormous, terrifying part. When it's Chris, he's a genius, and I don't throw that word around, but I think it definitely qualifies."
Oppenheimer is out now in cinemas.
