Billy Porter says Whitney Houston's portrayal of the Fairy Godmother was the one which inspired his version of the character Cinderella.
The 51-year-old singer and actor, who plays a genderless version of the character in the new Amazon musical, tells Yahoo Entertainment UK that Houston's take on the magic visitor in the 1997 movie Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella was untouchable for him.
From Kay Cannon (Pitch Perfect), Cinderella is a modern musical with a bold take on the story you grew up with. Our ambitious heroine (Camilla Cabello) has big dreams and with the help of her Fab G, she perseveres to make them come true. Cinderella has an all-star cast including Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, James Corden, Nicholas Galitzine, Billy Porter and Pierce Brosnan. Amazon Studios will release Cinderella exclusively on Prime Video, 3 September, 2021.
