The team behind Game of Thrones has acted quickly to remove the already infamous coffee cup from an early scene in the fourth episode of the show’s eighth season.
Eagle-eyed fans flooded Twitter with comments in the hours following the episode’s airing after they spotted a modern, disposable coffee cup on a table as the characters celebrated in Winterfell.

It’s fair to say that the beverage, which many claimed resembled a Starbucks cup, was out of place in the medieval fantasy world of Westeros.
HBO has confirmed to EW that the cup has now been removed and will not be visible in repeats of the episode, or on streaming services.
The cup has already become one of the biggest talking points from the episode, entitled The Last of the Starks, with the anachronism prompting more discussion than some of the biggest twists in the latest, feature-length trip to the Seven Kingdoms.

HBO took the onslaught of memes in good humour, acknowledging the error with a tweet from the official Game of Thrones account.
Starbucks, themselves, got in on the online fun with a tweet.
The beverage company is right to be buoyant, with MarketWatch suggesting that they would have had to pay as much as $250,000 (£192,000) to insert the cup if it were a deliberate instance of product placement.

Even the stars of Game of Thrones have referenced the embarrassing goof on social media.
Lena Headey, who plays Queen Cersei Lannister, poked fun at the blunder with an Instagram post pondering whether the chain might eventually make its way to King’s Landing.
The first teaser trailer for the next episode of Games of Thrones sees Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and forces loyal to Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen arrive at King’s Landing, with carnage almost certain to follow.
There are just two episodes of the fantasy epic remaining, with the highly anticipated series finale set to air on 19 May.
