Conrad Khan made headlines earlier this month when he was announced as the latest recruit for the cast of hit TV series Peaky Blinders, a role which will no doubt cement his status as one-to-watch - but it was his earlier work on film County Lines which has garnered him industry accolades and critical acclaim.

Khan stars in the moving coming-of-age film as a young teenager who is groomed into a criminal network.

"[County Lines] changed my life in a lot of ways," he tells us. "The response that the film has got was better than anything I'd ever imagined. It was such an important learning experience for me, really taking me places and giving me opportunities I'd never have dreamt of."

His performance has earned him a coveted spot on BAFTA's EE Rising Star Award shortlist - one which has previously boasted names such as Tom Hardy, John Boyega, Michael Fassbender; Emma Stone, Michelle Williams and Carey Mulligan. The eventual winner of the award will be chosen by the public.

"To be nominated for a BAFTA is a lifetime achievement, and for it to come at such a young age, personally it's really humbling," he says. "But at the same time, it gives me energy. It's the reason I get up every day. And just to be talked about among some of the past nominees... I mean, just looking at that list, it amazes me every time. I'm still coming to terms with it. I'm still pinching myself."

But what if his acting career hadn't turned out quite so well?

"If I wasn't an actor, my dream career would be to open a stationery shop," Khan tells us.

Public voting for the EE Rising Star Award is now open at ee.co.uk/BAFTA and the winner will be announced at the EE British Academy Film Awards on Sunday 11 April 2021.
