Britain has reported the lowest daily death toll since the start of the nationwide lockdown on March 23.

A total of 111 people died on Sunday after testing positive for the coronavirus, a sign of "significant progress" in tackling the outbreak, according to Matt Hancock.

Britain as a whole still has the second-highest cumulative toll in the global outbreak, with 39,045 deaths registered.

The Health Secretary also told the daily Government briefing that there had been 1,570 more positive cases, the lowest number since March 25.

The announcement came as Britain found a little more freedom as schools reopened and social distancing rules were relaxed.
