Coronavirus press conference live: Government gives schools COVID-19 briefing

Education secretary Gavin Williamson is holding a press conferences to update the public on the government’s plans for when schools and colleges fully reopen in September.

In its guidance for reopening schools published on Thursday, the government said schools “may have an outbreak” if two or more COVID-19 cases are confirmed in the first 14 days.

However, it said entire school closures “will not generally be necessary” and “should not be considered except on the advice of health protection teams”.
