With winter now underway, many concern themselves with rising bills.

Not so much, perhaps, the Imperial Empire.

It’s been estimated – using all manner of metrics, apart from the more traditional meter reading, of course – that it would cost £6.2 Octillion to run, per day.

Yes, per day.

To give that all of its constituent zeroes, that’s £6,200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 – around 100 trillion times the annual global economy, and 30 times the wealth of the Earth.

The numbers have been crunched by energy supplier Ovo, formulating this infographic, with help from Stephen Skolnick, the editor of the Physics Central blog, and Professor Alexander Barnett from Dartmouth University.

It takes into consideration a number of factors, drawn from the Star Wars wiki pages, and other databases of Star Wars trivia online, as well as data from the likes of the Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), Duke University and West London Waste.

Just over two million live and work on the space station, with figures provided for feeding and laundry, as well as for the cost of firing its massive, planet-vaporising laser and travelling at hyperspeed.

And then the recycling alone would cost nearly £500,000, while keeping the lights on would cost over £41 billion per day.

Maybe blowing it up was for the best in the end.
