Matt Baker is set to be fronting a new nature to rival ‘Countryfile’.

The 46-year-old broadcaster has hosted the BBC programme since 2009, and is now turning to Channel 4 to launch his own show called ‘Baker’s Britain’, which will explore farming and celebrate “the extraordinary people, places and things that make up the fabric of life in the UK”.

Speaking to The Daily Mirror newspaper, Matt said: “This new series encompasses everything we love as a production company, celebrating the people who make Britain great.

“We look forward to filming in all four nations and continuing our successful relationship with Channel 4.”

The four-part series will be helmed by his own production company, Big Circus Media, which the TV star runs with former ‘The One Show’ executive Gareth Collet.

In a statement, the firm said: “Matt will join those farming innovatively and discover the remarkable people caring for native wildlife or preserving the countryside for future generations. He’ll join those working in extreme landscapes and champion the remarkable people preserving Britain’s rich and proud history and heritage.”

Recently, the former ‘Blue Peter’ presenter revealed he was dealing with a herniated disc - which is where the soft cushion of tissue between bones in the spine push out - and took to social media to praise the NHS for their help, and asked for tips on how to cope with the pain.

On Instagram, he penned: “Hi all, Any advice for a herniated disc?

“For a long time now I’ve been dealing with a herniated disc- as an ex gymnast it’s hard not to be able to bend forward… so I decided to have a nerve block injection, - what a brilliant surgeon and lovely NHS team it was that did my treatment Thank you all! (also a big thanks to the nurse who used to watch me on ‘Blue Peter’ - the buttered toast was amazing!)

“Big thanks also to my friends at Champneys for helping me with my rehab it’s a very special place. If you know of any good exercises or helpful tips I’d love to hear them.”
