Cringe At The First Glimpse Of David Brent From Life On The Road

Oh my…

The first look at Ricky Gervais’s monstrous creation David Brent for forthcoming movie ‘Life On The Road’ will make your toes curl.

Reclining on a bed of heather in a wooded glade, he looks a David Essex tribute act crossed with an out-of-work pirate.

Brent’s MO was always to cause extreme cringing, so Gervais has nailed it right here, with what he describes as 'David Brent shooting a video for his epic folk ballad, #LadyGypsy’.

Production is expected to go into full swing later this year, but Gervais is clearly getting started on the feature-length mockumentary.

It will pick up 15 years after the events in 'The Office’, which introduced us to Brent in the confines of paper merchant Wernham-Hogg.

According to reports, Brent believes that it’s more of a 'rockumentary’ in the mould of Martin Scorsese’s work with the Rolling Stones, when in fact it’s a 'where are they now?’ type piece.

It emerges that he’s spent his pension money taking his band Foregone Conclusion on the road, travelling with his protege Dom Johnson, played by Ben Bailey Smith, aka rapper, comedian and writer Doc Brown.

Brent has previously been seen with Bailey Smith playing Dom for a Comic Relief sketch, where they performed the track 'Equality Street’.

But it soon emerges that Brent is holding back Dom and his genuine talent.

Gervais confirmed earlier this month that he will be working on the soundtrack to the movie with Coldplay’s Chris Martin, who appeared with him in his series 'Extras’.

Of the movie, he said: “This film delves much more into his private life than The Office ever did and we really get to peel back the layers of this extraordinary, ordinary man.”

It’s due out on August 19, 2016.
