A video of the cast of The Crown dancing to Lizzo’s “Good as Hell” in their costumes has been shared by Gillian Anderson.

Anderson played Margaret Thatcher on the recent fourth season of Netflix’s hit royal drama.

The incongruous clip was played during Anderson’s appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and sees almost the entire cast – including Olivia Colman (who plays Queen Elizabeth II), and Tobias Menzies (who plays Prince Philip) – dance while dressed for a funeral scene.

Explaining the dance, Anderson said: “Olivia [Colman] apparently does a dance class in the area that she lives with a bunch of friends, on a regular basis.

“And the last time she did the dance, they had danced to that Lizzo song, and she asked if we would happen to be interested in maybe doing it, and she would video it? And then she would just share it only with her friends, the other dancers. So it was never meant to see the light of day.”

Naturally, viewers were taken aback by the sight of such stately historical figures embracing contemporary dance moves, sharing their reactions on Twitter.

“The cast of The Crown dancing to Lizzo will give you all the serotonin you need,” wrote one viewer.

“The Crown cast dancing onset to Lizzo is a special level of amazing/wtf,” wrote someone else.

The first four seasons of The Crown are available to watch now on Netflix.
