The Crown star Emma Corrin has said it is “incredibly moving” to know that Prince Harry approves of the hit TV show.

Corrin, who who the TV drama best actress award at the Golden Globes for her portrayal of Harry’s mother Diana, Princess of Wales, said she was “grateful” that he had given his views on the headline-making series.

The show has been criticised for failing to distinguish between fiction and actual events.

Speaking after the win, Corrin said: “I’m glad he enjoyed it, I was very grateful for those words.

“I felt incredibly grateful to him. I was incredibly moved by what he said. Obviously I played his mother and that would have been such a sensitive thing. I was very moved he acknowledged it.”

The 25-year-old also made it clear the Netflix series did not claim to be a fully accurate portrayal of history.

“It’s difficult, with The Crown, since it is so fictional, it feels so removed from the actual Royal Family,” she said. “But on the other hand, the characters are based on real people, so there is something there.”

Harry said he was “comfortable” with the award-winning show while talking to James Corden during an appearance on The Late Late Show.

He said: “Of course it’s not strictly accurate, but loosely it gives you a rough idea about that lifestyle, what the pressures of putting duty and service above family and everything else, what can come from that.”

He added: “I’m way more comfortable with The Crown than I am seeing the stories written about my family or my wife or myself.

“Because it’s the difference between, ‘That is obviously fiction, take it how you will,’ but this is being reported on as fact because you’re supposedly news. I have a real issue with that.”

The show was named best small screen drama, while Josh O’Connor, who plays Prince Charles, won best actor in a TV drama. Its American star Gillian Anderson won best supporting actress for playing Margaret Thatcher.

She added: “Harry is fairly well qualified to judge what is fact or fiction. He’s understood what [creator] Peter [Morgan] is trying to do on The Crown.”
