Sarah Michelle Gellar May Return In Cruel Intentions TV Pilot

1990s icon Sarah Michelle Gellar may be set to reprise her most notorious big screen role 17 years on.

The 38-year old actress is being ‘courted’ by US TV network NBC to star in their upcoming pilot of ‘Cruel Intentions,’ a small-screen spin-off of the sexually charged 1999 teen drama, as reported by Deadline.

Gellar was at the height of her ‘Buffy’ fame when she went from vampire slayer to vamp as the duplicitous rich girl Kathryn Merteuil in the high school-set reworking of ‘Dangerous Liasons,’ which co-starred Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Phillippe and Selma Blair.

It seems Gellar’s Kathryn is the only character from the original film to be featured in the show, with Philippe’s character - her step-brother - being killed off.

Reportedly the TV series will be set 15 years on from the movie, and will see Kathryn “[vie] for control of Valmont International as well as the soul of Bash Casey, the son of her step-brother, the late Sebastian Valmont (Phillippe), and Annette Hargrove (Witherspoon).”

Gellar is said to be looking at the script, but there has been no indication yet of whether or not she will accept the role.

‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ ran from 1996 to 2003, in which time Gellar had a number of other high profile movie roles including ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ and ‘Scream 2.’

After ‘Buffy’ Gellar starred in the ‘Scooby Doo’ and ‘The Grudge’ movies, but she has largely slipped from the limelight since.

‘Cruel Intentions’ was a modest box office success on release in 1999, but proved popular enough to spawn two direct-to-DVD sequels in which none of the original cast returned.
