The legal team representing Cuba Gooding Jr has said that the woman who has accused the actor of groping her has a 'troubled mentality'.

It's claimed that the Jerry Maguire actor grabbed the breast of a 29-year-old woman at the Magic Hour Rooftop Bar and Lounge in Manhattan on the night of June 9.

Gooding Jr has pleaded not guilty to the charge of 'forcible touching', and has claimed that nothing happened on the night in question.

His lawyer Mark Heller, via USA Today, has said that the woman, who remains unidentified, approached the actor and his girlfriend Claudine De Niro at the club, with blurry footage of the alleged incident remaining inconclusive.

Heller says that he has also reviewed blog posts said to have been written by Gooding's accuser, which 'clearly reveal the metamorphism of a troubled mentality which sheds light on why she would make false allegations'.

It goes on to say that the posts 'provide considerable insight into why an individual with certain mental characteristics would be predisposed to make a false accusation against someone'.

Gooding's defence team say that in one of the posts written by the woman, she says she's been diagnosed with 'depression ADHD, anxiety disorder, PTSD, and basically learned that my brain was one big fat mess'.

Both De Niro, the estranged wife of the son of Robert De Niro, and another eye witness in the bar have provided affidavits describing what happened during the encounter, while Heller has questioned the NYPD's decision to have people 'arrested and charged simply because one person made an unsubstantiated claim against another'.

Both the District Attorney's office in Manhattan and sex crimes divison of the NYPD have declined to comment on the case so far.
