Daisy Ridley lands next lead movie role

Star Wars' Daisy Ridley has landed her next lead movie role.

The actor is set to star in Casino Royale director Martin Campbell's upcoming action thriller Dedication (via Variety).

The pair previously worked together on London-set thriller Cleaner, which will premiere on Sky Cinema in early 2025.

Dedication centres around decorated Marine Corps commander Major Billie Jean Parker (Ridley), who is relieved of duty after a high-stakes mission in the Philippines results in civilian casualties, despite her capturing the anarchist leader Omar Romatas.

"Facing the loss of her career, she visits her dying father, Clyde, a former Marine, who asks her to attend a dedication ceremony for a school building named in his honour," reads the official synopsis for the film.

"The event takes a deadly turn when Omar Romatas's vengeful son, Bento, launches an assault, taking hostages. Forced back into combat, Billie Jean sets traps and executes precise strikes to outwit the attackers."

Billie Jean is then forced to confront her past and prove herself "in a relentless battle that will define her legacy".

The film, which has been written by Dan Gordon, is launching at the American Film Market. Producers include Talk To Me's Phil Hunt, The Hitman's Bodyguard's Valentin Dimitrov and We Die Young's Sagiv Diamant.

"What a thrill to collaborate with a director of Martin Campbell's pedigree whose eye for big-scale action was on spectacular display in the Bond franchise," said Highland Film Group CEO Arianne Fraser.

"Daisy Ridley will perfectly embody the multiple facets of a fallen war hero who is forced into combat mode one last time."

Ridley is currently starring in Magpie, a new thriller that centres around a married couple whose lives begin to fracture when their daughter is cast alongside a glamorous movie star.

The actor last appeared in the acclaimed Young Woman and the Sea, and will next be seen in zombie thriller We Bury the Dead alongside Mark Coles Smith and Brenton Thwaites.

Dedication doesn't have a release date yet.
