Downton Star To Be Beastly With Emma Watson

Former Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens is in talks to play the Beast/Prince opposite Emma Watson's Belle in Disney's new Beauty And The Beast, according to reports.

The Hollywood Reporter says the British actor, who is forging a career in Hollywood, is likely to be cast in the live-action re-telling of the classic tale which will also star Luke Evans as the villain Gaston.

Stevens appeared to confirm the reports when he tweeted a picture with the words: "BEAST MODE".

The star has recently had roles in The Guest, Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb and A Walk Among The Tombstones.

In January Watson said her "heart was bursting" after being cast as Belle in the film which now appears to have an all-British cast.

It has not been confirmed that it will be a musical but the actress tweeted to say that she would be taking up singing lessons.

On Thursday Watson tweeted: "Could not be more happy that this man will be Beast!!! Welcome aboard."

She also tweeted a photo of Evans and wrote: "Bonjour Gaston! ❤️ Welcome!"

Production of the film is expected to begin later this year.

It will be directed by Twilight director Bill Condon and produced by Mandeville Films' David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, Disney announced.

The original Beauty And The Beast was released in 1991 with Paige O'Hara voicing Belle and Robby Benson playing the Beast.

Sir Kenneth Branagh has just directed a live-action remake of Cinderella with Cate Blanchett and British stars Lily James, Richard Madden and Helena Bonham-Carter.

It has had rave reviews and is due for release in the UK on 27 March.
