Dane DeHaan’s creepy Green Goblin revealed

"Can Spider-Man come out to play?"

Dane DeHaan as The Green Goblin

A first look at Dane DeHaan in character as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 villain, Green Goblin, has been released.

Moving in a decidedly different, and far creepier, direction to the Goblin of Sam Raimi’s original trilogy, DeHaan’s rather goulish version is a green-skinned and rotten-toothed monster sporting green armour, mechanical goblin ears and a disturbing maniacal grin.

Speaking to Digital Spy last month, the actor spoke about Harry Osbourn’s character arc in the movie - teasing his transition from Peter Parker’s friend to nemesis.

“When you first meet Harry he’s just graduated from high school, and he has to come back to New York to help deal with Oscorp, and its legacy, and his father,” said DeHaan.

“He also sees Peter Parker for the first time in a long time; they were childhood friends. So it’s really about Harry having a friendship with Peter and an allegiance to Peter, but also being the heir apparent to Oscorp, and having to deal with that.

“It’s becoming very obvious that all of these villains are originating from within Oscorp, in one way or the other. There are things that Harry feels he owes Peter, and things he needs from Peter, there are things he feels he needs from Spider-Man, and then there’s his responsibility to Oscorp. It’s a very complicated storyline, really cool and dynamic.”

The Green Goblin will, of course, be a big part of Sony’s upcoming spin-off focusing on beloved villains Venom and the Sinister Six.

“Villains can be very entertaining,” producer Avi Arad told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s not like somebody’s born and they’re a villain. Something happens and it changes their lives. Some people can deal with it — they become the heroes. Some people can’t and hate the world because of what they felt was done to them — they become the villains.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits cinemas on 18 April, 2014.

The film’s stars, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx, and director Marc Webb have all pledged to support a crowdfunding project on behalf of Earth Hour. Of his decision to back A Flame called Hope, which provides clean bio-gas for local communities in Nepal, Garfield said: “I’m proud Spider-Man is the first superhero ambassador for Earth Hour, because he shows we can all be superheroes when we realise the power we all have.”
