Daniel Craig's 007 returned to screens for a special Comic Relief cameo tonight (March 19).

In a James Bond spoof starring Catherine Tate's beloved character Nan, the secret agent popped up on a laptop in M's office where the sweary old woman was working as a cleaner.

"Why are you introducing yourself backwards?" she squawked after he'd performed his famous 'Bond, James Bond' line.

Further along, Nan proceeded to deconstruct Bond's iconography in her trademark manner, including his tuxedo and penchant for vodka martinis.

"Tell her to be on her toes..." she said of Bond's referred-to love interest, "because let's face it, every time you entertain someone in the bedroom department – next day, wallop, they're dead!"

After plenty more barbed remarks from the 'cleaner', it just so happened that Nan was hiding her true identity throughout the whole conversation: a cat-stroking villain named 0075.

This probably wasn't how Craig would have imagined himself bowing out of the role, but that's just how the chips have fallen because of No Time to Die's heavy delay.

It's been a pleasure, Mr Bond.
