Daniel Craig will become the longest running James Bond so far, according to franchise producer Michael G. Wilson.

In an interview with The People, Wilson said he would “love” to see Craig don the iconic tuxedo for five more movies, which would take him up to eight 007 appearances. Craig has reportedly been offered a multi-million pound deal to tie him to the series.

The current record holder is Roger Moore, on seven films, while Sean Connery is a movie behind on six.

Pierce Brosnan appeared in four Bond movies; Timothy Dalton two and Australian model George Lazenby in just one; ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’.

Wilson said: “Daniel's been a terrific Bond, a superb actor and a terrific man. The fans love him and I don't think there's a better actor to play the part.

"I'd love Daniel to surpass Roger's record and do eight pictures. A lot of people have said Daniel's been their favourite Bond since Sean Connery and I can't argue with them. He's doing a great job."

Daniel Craig is credited with reviving the 'Bond' franchise after the descent into absurd camp seen in 'Die Another Day'.

Despite opposition from 'Bond' purists, Craig’s ‘Casino Royale’ brought realism and drama back to the franchise and was a hit with audiences and critics.

The follow-up, 'Quantum of Solace’, was also a solid hit, though it is now seen as one of the weaker entries in the ‘Bond’ canon.

Whether Craig actually appears in eight 'Bond' films may depend less on a multi-film contract, and more on how upcoming 007 adventure ‘Skyfall’ performs.

It is currently being shot, and according to Wilson in the same interview, will have a “magical 1960s” feel.

He said: "The director Sam Mendes and Daniel [Craig] are taking it back to a '60s feel - more Sean Connery. I think that's what the fans wanted.

"There's a magical Goldfinger feel surrounding it all. It's all very exciting. I can't wait for people to see the movie because I think we're making a very special Bond."

'Skyfall' will be released in the UK on 26 October 2012.
