Yahoo Movies Daniel Craig wanted Queer sex scenes to feel "real and natural"
Daniel Craig has explained his intentions when filming the sex scenes for Queer, sharing that he wanted them to feel “real and natural.”
The upcoming film, which is directed by Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name, Bones and All, Challengers), sees Craig play William Lee, an American expat who falls in love with a younger man, Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey), whilst in Mexico City during the 1950s.

With the romance-drama having its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival today (September 3), Craig spoke with the press about what audiences can expect from Guadagnino’s film, stating that the crew had an intention when it came to filming the sex scenes.
“You know as well as I do, there’s nothing intimate about filming a sex scene on a movie set. There’s a room full of people watching you,” Craig began (via Variety). “We just wanted to make it as touching and as real and as natural as we possibly could.
“Drew is a wonderful, fantastic [and] beautiful actor to work with. We kind of had a laugh - we tried to make it fun,” added the actor, who has starred in the James Bond and Knives Out franchises.

Craig also shared how he came to be involved in Queer, recalling: “We [Guadagnino and I] met 20 years ago and said, ‘Hey, we want to work together,’ and we finally did. If I wasn’t in this movie and I saw this movie, I’d want to be in it. It’s the kind of film I want to see [and] make - I want it to be out there.”
In addition to the two lead stars, the cast for Queer also includes Jason Schwartzman, Lesley Manville, Henry Zaga, Drew Droege and Ariel Schulman, with Justin Kuritzkes - who collaborated with Guadagnino on Challengers - adapting William S Burroughs’ 1985 novel.
Queer currently has no release date, but will screen at the Toronto International Film Festival and New York Film Festival on September 9 and October 6 respectively.
