Danniella Westbrook reveals that she has womb cancer
Former EastEnders star Danniella Westbrook has revealed she has womb cancer.
The actress said the signs were there for around a year and a half, but doctors initially misdiagnosed her illness.
"There is part of me that thinks I would rather just be ill and not know about it – to just get on with life," Danniella told The Sunday Mirror.
"But then I thought about the kids and I thought that is a selfish way to be. I've tried to commit suicide before but getting this diagnosis has made me realise I don't want to die.
"I want to live and sort out my health. I know I have to fight, I know I have to get up and battle it."
She passed symptoms off as menopause and doctors diagnosed anaemia and then pregnancy before she passed out in the shower. She was later diagnosed with womb cancer.
Danniella is to have a full hysterectomy on the NHS later this month to remove the cancer – the same surgery her mother had when she was diagnosed with the disease.
The Celebrity Big Brother star said that after turning to drugs to get through the initial shock of her diagnosis she's now focusing on getting better," she said.
"I've always said I'm not scared of dying but then when you get cancer you think 'I don't want to die'. It makes me think about my health and getting better.
"Using drugs isn't my priority, getting to my appointments is. If I do cocaine I feel so horrendous, my body can't take it.
"I need to be strong and make my body fit and healthy. It's the only way I will win."
