Darjeeling Limited Actor Banned From Flight Over Turban

Actor Waris Ahluwalia, who has starred in several films for director Wes Anderson, has revealed that he was barred from a flight because of his turban.

Ahluwalia, who’s starred in ‘The Darjeeling Limited’, 'The Life Aquatic’ and 'The Grand Budapest Hotel’, was set to board an Aero Mexico plane to New York, but was held back until all other passengers had boarded the plane.

He was then swabbed, patted down and asked to remove his turban, but refused.

Speaking to the New York Daily News, he said: “That is something that I would not do in public. That’s akin to asking someone to take off their clothes.”

Ahluwalia, who is also a designer and was heading to New York Fashion Week, was then barred from boarding the plane, and given an 'SSSS’ stamp, standing for 'Secondary Security Screening Selection’.

He then posted a picture of himself and his boarding card on his Instagram account.

“I was shaking at first,” he added.

“That’s not a nice thing to be told, that you are not allowed to fly on this plane because of something you are wearing, or because of your religious beliefs.

“I’ve had the magic four S’s before. I’m really lucky on my ‘random’ selection.”

He later posted: :Dear NYC fashion week. I may be a little late as @aeromexico won’t let me fly with a turban. Don’t start the show without me. #lovenotfear#fearisanopportunitytoeducate.”
