Netflix has announced the release date for its new series based on classic '80s Jim Henson movie The Dark Crystal.
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance will premiere on the streaming service from Friday, August 30, 2019.
The series is a prequel to the 1982 movie with an all-new adventure set in the world of Thra, where three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power and set out on an epic journey to save their world.
Egerton will be joined by Anya Taylor-Joy and Nathalie Emmanuel, who will play his friends Brea and Deet. Other Gelfling will be voiced by stars including Caitriona Balfe, Helena Bonham Carter, Natalie Dormer, Eddie Izzard, Mark Strong and Alicia Vikander.
Voice actors for the Skeksis and Mystics include Mark Hamill, who needs no introduction, Harvey Fierstein, Ralph Ineson, Jason Isaacs, Keegan-Michael Key, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Simon Pegg and Andy Samberg.
Meanwhile, the mysterious Aughra will be voiced by The Happytime Murders' Donna Kimball.
Speaking about the series last year, Lisa Henson, the CEO of The Jim Henson Company and the legendary puppeteer's daughter, said: "It is humbling to see so many truly gifted actors join The Dark Crystal universe by adding their voices to Age of Resistance.
"As with the original film, we are now adding a voice cast of the highest calibre that will provide textures and range to the puppetry performances that are the heart of the series.
"It is thrilling to see this assembled team of artists, puppeteers and now voice actors, many inspired by my father’s original film, work together to realise this unique world – through performance and craft – at a scale that is rarely seen today."
The Dark Crystal: The Age of Resistance will launch on Netflix on Friday, August 30, 2019.
