Darren Aronofsky to Produce ‘White Boy Rick’ Movie With Drug Dealer’s Cooperation

Darren Aronofsky and Scott Franklin of Protozoa Pictures are set to produce a movie about “White Boy Rick” Wershe, the former drug kingpin from Detroit who has agreed to help the filmmakers tell his incredible story, TheWrap has learned.

Franklin will be the lead producer for his and Aronofsky’s Protozoa Pictures, which is currently out to directors. Aronofsky has not set a follow-up to last year’s biblical epic “Noah.”

Andrew Weiss wrote the script with input from Wershe, who was just a teenager when he began trafficking cocaine throughout the Motor City.

In a unique twist, Wershe was also working as an undercover informant for the FBI and DEA, though his cooperation didn’t prevent him from eventually behind sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for selling eight kilos of the highly-addictive narcotic. He is currently behind bars.

The project is one of three about White Boy Rick, who is also the subject of a Universal project that has Joseph Kosinski attached to direct and a Studio 8-owned spec script written by Logan and Noah Miller.
